‘Number 56 on its way’, ‘If the board want this…’ – Rangers fans react to shock Celtic 2-0 defeat to Hearts

Rangers fans flocked to social media following Celtic’s 2-0 loss to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

The league leaders suffered their second defeat of the season at Celtic Park after first-half goals from Lawrence Shankland and Stephen Kingsley.

Celtic remain at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with 42 points after 18 games, but their slip-up has allowed Rangers the opportunity to leapfrog them if they win their games in hand.

Philippe Clement’s side have played two games less than their Glaswegian rivals, with Gers set to resume their league campaign at home to St Johnstone on Wednesday after their Scottish League Cup final against Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers are unbeaten in the league since their 3-1 loss to Aberdeen at Ibrox in September.

Meanwhile, Celtic have now suffered back-to-back league defeats against Kilmarnock and Hearts, putting manager Brendan Rodgers under huge pressure as the second half of the season approaches.

The two Glasgow sides are set to go head-to-head in the Old Firm derby at the end of the month (30 December).

Rangers fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, enjoyed watching their rivals lose at home just 24 hours before they head to Hampden Park for a cup final.

One supporter was trying to contain the excitement among Rangers fans, urging them to ‘calm down’.

Others were quick to point out Celtic’s Champions League exit as well as their poor form in the league…

Some fans went as far as talking about Rangers’ title chances, claiming the league is now theirs to lose.

This supporter believes Clement is two or three signings away from building a title-winning squad.
