Nunes and Silva mock Man City teammate Dias: ‘If I speak I’m in big trouble’

Man City duo Matheus Nunes and Bernardo Silva mocked their teammate Ruben Dias on social media.

The Sky Blues’ Portuguese trio have played a huge part in the club’s recent successes, but all three have faced their fair share of scrutiny this season.

Mick Brown revealed exclusively to Football Insider that Silva may be one of many City players leaving the club this summer, following a disappointing season by the midfielder’s lofty standards.

Having joined the club initially as a midfielder, Nunes was on the receiving end of some critical comments from manager Pep Guardiola earlier in the season, but turned his performances around near the back end of the campaign.

As for Dias, fitness issues limited the centre-back to just 25 starts in the Premier League this season, and his form was arguably the worst it has been since arriving in Manchester in September 2020.

Matheus Nunes, Bernardo Silva tease Man City teammate Ruben Dias

As Silva and Dias linked up with their Portugal teammates prior to the Nations League semi-final against Germany, the City centre-back shared several images of himself on Instagram, captioned: “Final four”.

The former Benfica man arrived in an eye-catching outfit, causing Nunes to comment: “Bernardo Silva, honestly”, with the Sky Blues’ midfielder responding by quoting Jose Mourinho’s famous line: “If I speak I’m in big trouble”.

Man City should give Bernardo Silva another chance with Kevin De Bruyne leaving

Football Insider Verdict

Silva registered his worst season in a City shirt in terms of output, scoring five and assisting four in all competitions.

Now 30 years old, the winger struggled to have a significant impact for much of the year, often drifting out of games or being benched for Savinho.

But with Kevin De Bruyne leaving this summer, City should look to reposition Silva, rather than simply cutting their losses after a down year.

The Premier League is trending back towards a faster and more direct style, something that does not suit the diminutive Portuguese player when he is played out on the wing.

With a vacancy in the centre of the park and the need for a player with an eye for a pass to supply Erling Haaland, now seems the perfect time to return Silva to his original position as an attacking midfielder.
