Obi-Martin had agreed terms with Arsenal but opted to leave as he felt Man United offered a better pathway to the first team.
New Man United assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy had held direct talks with Obi-Martin, and he is said to have been key in convincing him to join the 20-time champions.
Football Insider also revealed that Bayern Munich submitted an offer for the forward, who scored 32 goals in 18 matches for Arsenal’s U18s.
