The odds have tumbled on Sunderland signing Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack before the transfer window shuts, according to bookmakers.
Ladbrokes had priced Leeds United as 2/1 favourites to land the Scotland international, 31, just nine days ago.
But the market has considerably changed and Sky Bet now make Sunderland the overwhelming favourites to sign McCormack at 1/10, while Leeds have drifted to 9/2.
Football Insider revealed last week that Sunderland were closing in on the loan signing of McCormack after a breakthrough in talks.
Villa are ready to let McCormack move on as he does not figure in Steve Bruce’s plans and they will use the funds from his departure to strengthen the squad elsewhere.
McCormack has not featured this season after scoring just three goals in 20 Championship games for the Midlands giants following his arrival last summer before spending the second half of 2016-17 on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Sunderland boss Simon Grayson is a big fan of McCormack having signed him when he was in charge of Leeds and he sees him as an ideal replacement for Jermain Defoe at the Stadium of Light.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club have agreed a fee for a 29-year-old attacker with a brilliant track record.
