Odds slashed: Mohamed Salah tipped for last-minute Liverpool transfer after dramatic twist

Mohamed Salah has been tipped to leave Liverpool before the transfer window shuts on Monday, despite his return.

After Egypt lost to Nigeria in the AFCON third-place game, Salah returned to Liverpool with the expectation that his future would be determined.

The winger publicly slammed the Reds and manager Arne Slot following a draw with Leeds United in December, and was linked with an exit.

Salah has been strongly linked with the Saudi Pro League, and many expected that his return in January would see the bids flood in.

But the Egyptian immediately started against Bournemouth upon his return, and as Liverpool beat Qarabag 6-0 on Wednesday, he was on the scoresheet.

Some uncertainty remains over the future of Salah, despite his return to Anfield following AFCON.

On the surface, the winger appears to have found an agreement with Slot, although there is significant uncertainty over the Dutchman’s own position.

Despite Liverpool‘s strong form in the Champions League, the Reds have won none of their previous five Premier League games.

With both Chelsea and Man United finding strong form under new management, Slot’s team now find themselves falling behind in the race for Champions League football.

Given Liverpool’s status as Premier League winners, it can only be assumed that decision-makers would not take kindly to failure to miss out on Europe’s top competition.

With that in mind, the January transfer window appeared to be an important one for the Reds, but after so much money was spent in the summer, the focus has remained on outgoings.

Salah could potentially be among those outgoings in the final days of the window, with one major bookmaker slashing his odds of leaving for the Saudi Pro League to 11/8 in recent hours.

Salah yet to comment since explosive Liverpool comments

“It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus,” Salah said after he had been benched by Slot for the third consecutive game in December. “That is how I am feeling.”

The winger is yet to comment on the speculation surrounding his future since his return, but rumours remain.

Should the 33-year-old remain at Anfield this month, then both his and Slot’s future will surely be decided in the summer.

Salah signed a two-year extension earlier this year, and will still warrant a sizable fee to Liverpool.
