Odds slashed: Premier League sack race takes new twist today after Oliver Glasner development

Oliver Glasner’s odds of being the next Premier League manager to face the sack have been slashed dramatically after Crystal Palace were held by Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar.

The Eagles could only muster up one goal away in Mostar as they drew the first leg of their Conference League play-off tie 1-1.

Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring before half-time with a superbly taken strike, but Palace could not capitalise on their advantage and were sliced open after the break when Karlo Abramovic scored.

Adam Wharton hit the crossbar in the second half, but it looked as if Zrinjski would have the chance to take a lead to London late on when referee Manfredas Lukjancukas was sent to the monitor to review a potential penalty.

Seeing Daniel Munoz’s attempts to protect himself as the ball skimmed his hand, however, the Lithuanian official waved away the claims.

Thursday’s draw saw the pressure on Glasner intensify even further. The Austrian is already set to leave at the end of the season, but will surely be dismissed before then if this type of form continues until May.

Palace have won just one of their last 15 games across all competitions, in what has been a staggering collapse to follow a strong start to the season.

The one game they won came against fierce rivals Brighton, where Fabian Hurzeler leads the sack race.

The German’s side are without a win in six games, and are at risk of getting sucked into the relegation fight.

It is a slightly different case for the man sitting second among the bookies’ sack favourites, Scott Parker.

The Englishman led his side to a stunning comeback victory over Palace at Selhurst Park last week, marking a first Premier League win since October.

Unfortunately, Burnley backed up that win with defeat at Turf Moor to League One side Mansfield Town in the FA Cup.

Yet, Parker appears to have retained the board’s belief in keeping his position, despite the impending relegation.

Glasner’s odds of getting sacked next in the Premier League were slashed to 5/2 by one major bookmaker after Thursday’s draw, while Hurzeler (5/4) and Parker (7/4) continue to lead the way.

Crystal Palace fans demand Glasner sack

Just a few months ago, Glasner was a hero at Selhurst Park and the man credited with leading a new era at Palace.

The Austrian guided the Eagles to their first major trophy in club history when they beat Man City in the FA Cup final, and followed it up by winning the Community Shield against Liverpool.

This season should have been one in which fans were treated to exciting European football, but it has turned disastrous.

“Glasner is a poison to the club right now,” claimed one fan on social media after Thursday’s game. Another wrote: “If this was Forest, Glasner would have been out months ago”.

Several more fans demanded the Austrian’s departure, and they may well get their wish if form does not rapidly turn around.
