Danny Mills lauds the “incredibly talented” Ian Poveda after hearing that the Leeds United attacker was impressing in training.
The former Whites and Manchester City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 20-year-old’s arrival shows Marcelo Bielsa’s diligence to be “off the scale” when it comes to spotting talent.
Football Insider understands that Poveda is lighting up training at Thorp Arch with his trickery and pace, a source describing him as “unbelievable” at times.
The winger, who arrived from Manchester City in January, starred as a second-half substitute against City last time out in what was only his seventh appearances for Leeds.
Mills said that the next step for Poveda is to showcase his “untold ability” as a starter.
“Poveda is clearly an incredibly talented player,” he told Football Insider.
“He would not have been at Manchester City and done well there unless he had great ability.
“Marcelo Bielsa’s diligence is off the scale when it comes to players so he clearly has untold ability.
“It takes everybody time to work out Bielsa’s system and the intensity. He is a young player though so there will be ups and downs but he has already shown great quality.
“But he has only had cameos so far and it is easier to come on and have a fantastic 15 minutes. It is doing it from the start week in, week out which makes you a top player.
“Undoubtedly he has a lot of potential, he just has to work hard to realise that.”
