Offers submitted in Aston Villa, Wolves and Burnley race to sign goalkeeper

Aston Villa, Wolves and Burnley’s interest in Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor has taken a new twist with bids submitted, sources have told Football Insider.

An unnamed Premier League club and Bayer Leverkusen have submitted offers for the 29-year-old, who excelled at the recent Club World Cup.

Sources in Brazil say Aston Villa, Wolves and Burnley are all understood to have had scouts watching Victor on Tuesday night.

He delivered another man-of-the-match performance in the 2-0 win over Red Bull Bragantino in the Copa Betano Do Brazil.

Victor helped Botafogo win Brazil’s Serie A and the Copa Libertadores last year, and he was named in the Team of the Year for both competitions in 2024.

Premier League sides battle for keeper rivalling Ederson and Alisson

Victor’s impressive performances on the big stage have caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Earlier this month (13 July), Football Insider exclusively revealed that Man United were interested in the Botafogo shot-stopper, as a potential replacement for Andre Onana.

In terms of international football, Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly considering calling Victor up to Brazil’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers in September.

If selected, the 29-year-old would be fighting established Premier League stars Ederson and Alisson for a spot in the starting lineup.

‘Aston Villa face fight to keep star striker’

Meanwhile, Newcastle have reportedly added Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins to their list of transfer targets in the final month of the transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Villa scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 29-year-old is among a number of options who could replace Isak.

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 July that Aston Villa are open to offers for Watkins and have been surprised by the lack of interest this summer.

Tottenham and Man United have also been keeping tabs on the England international’s situation at Villa Park, but have not made concerted moves.
