Serie A side Genoa are working on a deal to sign Newcastle United outcast Achraf Lazaar just a year after he joined from Palermo, according to a reliable journalist.
Evening Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder claimed on his personal Twitter account that officials from the Italian outfit are to jet in to Tyneside to thrash out a deal to sign the 25-year-old.
Ryder reports that Morocco international Lazaar has been working hard at Newcastle’s academy in order to keep fit this summer as he prepares for a possible exit.

Lazaar made just nine appearances for Newcastle last season after moving to the club in a £3million deal as cover for Wales international Paul Dummett.
However, he failed to adapt to the physical rigours of the Championship and has since been reportedly told that he can leave the club along with a handful of players.

Football Insider verdict:
Benitez knows he must sell deadwood to raise funds for new players. Lazaar is one of those who is surplus to requirements and he clearly has no future at Newcastle after the arrival of Javier Manquillo this summer pushed him even further down the full-back pecking order. He is simply not cut out for English football and a move away from the Toon would benefit all parties.
