Oihan Sancet ‘top of Aston Villa transfer list’ – release clause
Aston Villa are looking to utilise their Spanish links to sign Oihan Sancet in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 24-year-old “is on their radar” as the club wants to strengthen their midfield options.
Unai Emery has great knowledge of those playing in La Liga, while Villa’s sporting director Monchi also has many strong connections in Spain.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Villa are looking to build from a position of power right now after qualifying for the Champions League.
The club wants to secure players while they’re still playing in Europe’s elite competition as there is always the risk of a team losing their best players when they drop out of the Champions League.
Emery wants to strengthen the squad to help push them to secure a top-four finish once again in the Premier League.
Aston Villa will have to pay a high price for Oihan Sancet
Sancet has a big release clause in his contract that will cost Villa £66million if they want to secure his services in January.
However, a deal could be more likely to take place for the attacking midfielder in the summer transfer window instead.
The Spain international is on a lengthy contract at Athletic Bilbao as his current deal doesn’t expire until 2032, but he is right at the top of Villa’s wish list.

Sancet has scored six goals in 13 appearances across all competitions this season for Athletic Bilbao which has caught the attention of clubs across Europe.
Villa have scored 19 teams so far in the Premier League, but only one team above them have found the back of the net fewer times.
