Ollie Watkins: Aston Villa striker is perfect for Arsenal after source’s reveal
Danny Mills has tipped Ollie Watkins to step in and fill the imminent striker void at Arsenal.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and Leeds United defender insisted it would be a “great move” for both Arsenal and Watkins.
A recruitment source told Football Insider on Thursday (3 March) the Gunners have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of the England international.
It is understood Steven Gerrard is not convinced Watkins is the right man to lead the Aston Villa frontline in the long term and they will listen to offers for him.
Before netting two in his last two Premier League games, the 26-year-old scored just once in 10 appearances across all competitions.
Arsenal will be in the market for at least one striker in the summer with their current senior options – Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette – both out of contract in the summer.
“It could be a great move for him,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He’s got quality, we know that and we’ve seen it time and time again and he’s got pace. He’s also played for England.
“Yes, without a doubt, he could step into that role and that void which is going to be left by Nketiah and Lacazette going.
“That could be a really good move for him and Arsenal, I would suggest.”

Watkins has scored 21 Premier League goals in 60 appearances for Aston Villa since his move from Brentford in the summer of 2020.
He is under contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2025.
In other news, Kieran Maguire has questioned if Arsenal are a ‘big-six’ club anymore after a £238m announcement.
