Ollie Watkins reacts to Mason Mount’s message in Man United transfer hint

Ollie Watkins may have dropped a transfer hint after reacting to Mason Mount’s latest message, adding fuel to speculation over a possible move to Manchester United.

Man United are in the market for a new striker this summer following inconsistent seasons from both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Football Insider recently reported that Man United are interested in Watkins, though any serious move would likely depend on Hojlund’s future at the club.

A deal for the Aston Villa star is far from straightforward, with Watkins currently the only out-and-out striker at Villa Park. It’s unlikely Unai Emery would allow him to leave without a suitable replacement secured first.

However, Watkins’ activity on Instagram may have fuelled speculation, as he was spotted engaging with Mount’s post, sparking theories that he may be linking up with the midfielder at Old Trafford.

Mason Mount shares determined Man United training update

Several Premier League clubs returned to pre-season training this week, with Man United welcoming back key players, including new signing Matheus Cunha.

Meanwhile, Mount gave fans a glimpse into the first training session back, sharing a photo on his Instagram story and a post with the caption: “Season starts here.”

The post was well-received, attracting likes and comments with emojis from teammates Bruno Fernandes and Cunha. Interestingly, Watkins also liked the post, which some may have taken as a potential hint at his mindset amid transfer speculation.

The Englishman is coming off another strong campaign, scoring 17 goals and registering 14 assists across all competitions under Unai Emery.

However, should the Red Devils wish to pursue a move for the England international, former financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Watkins may cost Man United £100 million, factoring in his fee and expected wages of around £200,000 per week.

While Watkins has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford, Mount could be heading in the opposite direction.

Football Insider revealed that Man United are prepared to accept offers for Mount this summer, with Aston Villa among the clubs expressing interest.

Mount endured another frustrating season at United, missing 23 matches due to two separate hamstring injuries. That followed a injury-hit debut campaign, where he was sidelined for 27 games.

Villa manager Emery is understood to be a long-term admirer of Mount, and the club are exploring the possibility of making a move, should the midfielder be open to the switch.
