Omar Marmoush shines, 4/10 flops – Man City player ratings vs Brighton

Manchester City slipped to back-to-back defeats at Brighton as the Seagulls came from behind to win 2-1.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring after 34 minutes and Man City looked to be cruising to victory until James Milner’s second half penalty.

Brajan Gruda then showed excellent composure to net the winning goal for Brighton with just a minute of the 90 remaining.

Below are how Man City players fared in the defeat at the AMEX Stadium.

James Trafford has strong showing

James Trafford – 8

One smart save to deny Kaoru Mitoma in the first half, and kept out Yankuba Minteh in the second period with a strong stop. Made an excellent stop to keep out Jan Paul van Hecke late on just before the Brighton winner.

Matheus Nunes (Off for Rico Lewis 85′) – 6

Was excellent defensively at full-back before his handball allowed Brighton to level the scores.

Abdukodir Khusanov (Ruben Dias 85′) – 4

A late sliding challenge on Minteh saw him receive a yellow card. A poor decision with Brighton starting to get back into the game and that led to the penalty. Looked uncomfortable when under pressure.

John Stones – 7

Wasn’t overly worked in defence and looked solid unlike his centre-back partner Abdukodir Khusanov.

Rayan Ait-Nouri – 4

Another Man City defender who looked poor when put under pressure by Brighton, and Rayan Ait-Nouri also offered little going forward.

Rodri solid on return as Bernardo Silva struggles

Rodri – 7

Solid and reliable as ever in midfield on his first start of the season. A welcome return for Pep Guardiola.

Tijjani Reijnders – 6

A lack of attacking threat from midfield, but he kept Man City ticking in the middle of the park.

Bernardo Silva (Nico O’Reilly 72′) – 4

An off day for Bernardo Silva, who was poor defensively and offered no creativity going forward.

Oscar Bobb – 5

Did not offer enough in the Man City attack, and was outshone by Omar Marmoush on the opposite flank.

Omar Marmoush (Off for Jeremy Doku, 72′) – 8

An excellent performance. Good work in the build-up to Haaland’s opener and looked lively and a threat down the left flank.

Erling Haaland – 7

Calm finish over Bart Verbruggen to net Man City’s opening goal after a couple of missed opportunities earlier in the match. Looked sharp.

Substitutes

Jeremy Doku (On for Omar Marmoush 72′) – 5

No impact on the final stages of the match, when he was brought on to do so.

Nico O’Reilly (On for Bernardo Silva 72′) – 6

Good display from the 20-year-old in the last 18 minutes when Brighton were on top.

Rico Lewis (On for Matheus Nunes 85′) – 6

No time to make an impact from full-back.

Ruben Dias (On for Abdukodir Khusanov 85′) – 6

Should have started ahead of Khusanov, a decision Guardiola got wrong.
