Onana and Dalot react to Man United appointment after squad exit

Man United have issued a significant update on the future of one senior player, prompting responses from the likes of Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot.

It will be a busy summer at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils looking to put together a squad capable of bouncing back from a dismal 2024/25 campaign.

Man United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves as their first signing of the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo has also been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, although exits will be needed to allow for incomings.

It has been suggested that Man United could pay for the likes of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho to leave the club.

Amid all that, it has now been confirmed that one player who will not be playing for Ruben Amorim‘s side next season, is still set to be at Old Trafford.

Jonny Evans has new role confirmed

After coming through the club’s youth ranks, Jonny Evans spent nine years at senior level with Man United between 2006 and 2015.

He then returned to the club in 2023, helping them to win the FA Cup during his first season back, marking his seventh major trophy with the Red Devils.

But with his contract at Old Trafford expiring this summer, it has now been confirmed that the centre-back has retired from playing.

Instead, it has been confirmed that the 37-year-old will take on the role of Head of Loans and Pathways at Man United.

After the club took to Instagram to officially announce that new role for Evans, Onana and Dalot both showed their support for their now former teammate by liking that post.

Man United appointment is a smart one

Football Insider Verdict

Within this new role, Evans will no doubt be working with many of the young players looking to break into first-team football at Old Trafford.

In that sense this does seem like a sensible appointment for Man United, given the centre-back was always a player who set an example on the pitch.

That makes him the ideal fit to now help guide other players in the right direction, as they take the next steps in their careers.

With Evans having also come through the youth ranks at Man United to make the step up to senior, he will also know just what they are going through, making him the perfect source of insight for them.

As a result, this looks like a good move for the former Northern Ireland at the end of a playing career he can be rightly proud of.
