Onana and Zirkzee react to Antony’s new update amid Man United exit rumours

Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee have reacted to a new update from Man United outcast Antony as he looks for an exit route out of Old Trafford this summer.

Antony is yet to live up to the lofty expectations set of him when he made the £82million [BBC] move to United from Ajax back in September 2022.

The Brazilian winger has scored just 12 times in 96 appearances for the Red Devils over the last three years, and he was shunned by Ruben Amorim last season then loaned out to Real Betis in the January window.

Antony impressed at Betis as they reached the Conference League final against Chelsea, but did not do enough to force his way back into Amorim’s plans, with reports emerging last month that the 25-year-old was nearing an Old Trafford exit amid interest from Betis in turning his loan into a permanent deal.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson revealed to Football Insider on 1 July that United could take a profit and sustainability (PSR) loss to get rid of Antony this summer, with Fabrizio Romano recently reporting that Serie A side Como are also interested in his services.

Antony shares training update on social media

According to the BBC, Antony has remained in his native Brazil after being told by United he will not be part of Amorim’s first-team training sessions ahead of the new campaign.

United say the has told them he wants to leave, but a move to Betis has not moved any closer as the La Liga side are refusing to shift from their budget and so are still locked in transfer negotiations with the Red Devils.

Antony is still keeping busy while he stays fit individually, as he took to Instagram on Thursday, 10 July, to share a video of him in training with a small coaching team alongside a simple caption of target and football emojis.

His message was reacted to with likes from United teammates Onana and Zirkzee, who have each also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, while Nottingham Forest defender Murillo and Bournemouth striker Evanilson also followed suit.

United do not need Antony any more

Football Insider verdict

Antony definitely has the ability to be a decent player in a top five European league, as shown by his good spell with Betis, but he has no future at United after developments this summer.

The Red Devils have moved to bring in Matheus Cunha from Wolves, who plays in a different position to his compatriot but is an attacker all the same, and so will need to raise money from sales of players like Antony.

United need goalscorers this summer, and Cunha is guaranteed to find the net regularly if played in the right system, while Amorim could also complement his talents with another forward as Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo closes in on a move to the Red Devils, as revealed by Football Insider.

Those signings leave a player like Antony with no future at the club, especially since Amorim reverted to playing with wing-backs towards the end of last season, and so will want to limit the amount of wingers in his squad, with Jadon Sancho also seeking a United exit this summer.
