Rangers legend Andy Goram believes Allan McGregor will prove to be “one of the best signings” at Ibrox this summer after rejoining the Light Blue from Hull City.
McGregor left the Gers in 2012 but returned this summer as Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox revolution gets underway and Goram thinks that despite McGregor being 36 “age doesn’t matter.”
‘The Goalie’ also thinks it makes sense to have brought a new goalkeeper in after “noises” Foderingham would be leaving this summer.
“There have been noises that Wes is going away anyway,” Goram said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“And in my opinion, Allan is better than what they’ve got. People go on about age.
“I played until a good age but age doesn’t matter.
“It’s down to the quality he has and the level he has been playing at.
“Allan will turn out to be one of the best signings because he has the experience.”
Football Insider verdict:
Bringing in a new goalkeeper is what many fans wanted this summer and McGregor fits the bill perfectly for the Ibrox giants. The veteran has been over the course numerous times with the Gers and knows exactly what is required to be a success and help the Light Blues end their long wait for a major trophy. At 36. McGregor’s career doesn’t have a massive amount left but there’s been almost no drop in quality from the Scotland international and he should prove to be as important as player as he was in his first spell with the Gers. With McGregor signed, it looks certain that either Wes Foderingham or Jak Alnwick will move on, although Steven Gerrard would no doubt love to have two quality goalkeepers scrapping over the first-team jersey as they try to bring an end to Celtic’s recent domination of Scottish football.
