Celtic fans on Twitter have been giving their reactions to the news that Derk Boerrigter has decided to retire from football at the age of 31.
The Dutchman was signed for the Hoops from Ajax by then manager Neil Lennon for a fee of £3milllion, but a series of injured restricted him to only 26 appearances in three seasons with the Hoops.
The player was such a drain on the club’s resources that he was released from his contract in 2016, when it still had 18 months left to run.
Unsurprisingly, fans aren’t exactly unhappy that the player has quit the beautiful game.
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to the news of the Dutchman’s retirement:
Derk Boerrigter has to be one of the worst signings we've ever had

I thought Derk Boerrigter looked like a really good signing for Celtic for the 12 minutes he was fit to play.

Did he no retire when he joined Celtic for a waste of £3million quid????

Boerrigter only scored one goal in his time with the Hoops – a late winner against Aberdeen – only started eight matches in his time with the club.
He never really recovered after a good start in his debut against Ross County which was curtailed in the first-half because of injury.
The player might not be one of the worst ever signings in the Hoops’ history, as has been claimed on Twitter, but hr still has to go down as one of the worst signings of the decade at least.
