Besiktas defender Dusko Tosic has revealed that he has no intention of transferring away from his current club after he was reported to be on the radar of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.
Turkish news outlet Fotospor has previously claimed that the Scottish champions had set their sights on signing the 21-times Serbia international in January, however he has now made it clear that he wants to stay in Turkey.
“I want to stay at this great club unless the board has different plans for me. I respect their decision but if they don’t want to sell me then I’m definitely staying here and will fight for my jersey”, he said to Sabah.com, as quoted by the Daily Record.
Celtic have recently signed Marvin Compper from Leipzig to add to their centre-backs with speculation rife that both Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic may be moving to pastures new as Kristoffer Ajer has emerged to become a first-choice pick at Celtic Park.
Football Insider verdict
It’s unlikely that Rodgers or the rest of the coaching staff at the Scottish champions will be losing any sleep over the news that Tosic intends to remain playing in Turkey. The Hoops were looking for an experienced centre-back and have now signed one, with Marvin Compper also having the bonus of playing in a better league than Tosic has and he has also played in Italy. It may be the case though that the Bhoys are soon looking to sign another centre-back in January, especially if both Sviatchenko and Simunovic leave. The chances of Tosic being that centre-back would seem slim to none.
