O’Nien and Roberts react to emotional Isidor’s Sunderland ‘history’ message
Luke O’Nien and Patrick Roberts have both reacted to an emotional message sent by their Sunderland teammate Wilson Isidor.
The striker made the move to the Stadium of Light last summer, signing on loan from Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Sunderland then signed Isidor permanently in February, on a contract that is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 season.
Of course, the 24-year-old’s spell with the Black Cats so far, has proven to be a rather successful one for all concerned.

Wilson Isidor reflects on debut campaign in England
Last month, Sunderland beat Sheffield United 2-1 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, securing their return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.
Over the course of the campaign, Isidor played an important role for Regis Le Bris‘ side, scoring 13 goals and providing two assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
The striker has now opened up on that experience of his first season with the club, taking to Instagram to post a video of some of his side’s best moments from the 2024/25 campaign.
Isidor then added a caption to that which reads: “Memories that will last forever. Together, we wrote history, and this chapter will never be forgotten. Mackems, this is for you.”
In response, his Sunderland teammates were keen to show their support, with Roberts liking the post, while O’Nien showed how highly he rates the striker by commenting with a goat emoji.
Sunderland facing tough Premier League return
Football Insider Verdict
There can be no doubt that things are not going to be easy for the Black Cats on their return to the Premier League next season.
You only have to look at the fact that all six newly promoted teams across the last two seasons have been immediately relegated back to the Championship to see the scale of the task that awaits them.
Of course, Sunderland have already sold Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund this summer as well, further adding to the task they face.
Even so, few would have backed them to even win promotion this season, and so the fact that they did is still something they deserve plenty of credit for.
Now, Isidor and his teammates will have to be at the top of their game next season, to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
