‘Oozes class’ – Fulham fans stunned by Tom Cairney as remarkable stats emerge vs Bournemouth
Bournemouth and Fulham clashed at the Vitality Stadium on Friday evening and while the Cottagers lost, Tom Cairney was one of the standout performers.
Jamie Redknapp says that Andoni Iraola is one of the best managers in the world, and while Friday’s Premier League game didn’t reflect as much, the Spanish manager has done a wonderful job in charge of the Cherries.
Bournemouth were able to capitalise on Fulham’s tendency to concede more fouls than any Premier League team.
Fulham’s injury nightmare ultimately played into Bournemouth’s hands as Sasa Lukic had to be withdrawn within the first 15 minutes.
Fulham fans stunned by Tom Cairney’s substitute performance
Sasa Lukic had to come off with an injury after 14 minutes with Cairney replacing him. Fulham instantly looked a lot better as the English midfielder came in and provided a calm presence in midfield, ticking things over.
Fulham fans are huge admirers of Cairney, and many took to social media to show their appreciation for the 34-year-old.
One Fulham fan said: “Fulham always have and always will be a better team when Tom Cairney is on the pitch.”
Another fan had a bit of a backhanded compliment for Cairney: “Left footed players just look better on the pitch….. Tom Cairney can hardly run but he can play ball…”
After coming for Lukic, Cairney was imperious, leading a fan to say: “Fulham always have and always will be a better team when Tom Cairney is on the pitch.”

While he was on the pitch for less time than the other starting midfielder, it was the veteran Cairney who dominated the midfield battle.
Although no longer the most mobile player, Cairney was reliable and consistent for Fulham. While he could do little to prevent either of Bournemouth’s brilliant goals, it’s fair to say he was one of the best players on the pitch.
