O’Rourke update on Carlos Soler agreeing permanent West Ham deal

Carlos Soler is unlikely to remain at West Ham beyond the end of his loan spell from Paris Saint-Germain, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 28-year-old has not done enough during his loan spell to earn a permanent move to the London Stadium.

Soler would command a big fee as well as high wages if he were to make the move, and the Hammers are not likely to view the deal as good value for money.

Football Insider revealed in January that PSG want Soler to join West Ham permanently, while he has an option to buy for almost £17million written into his loan deal.

However, Graham Potter’s side are set to prioritise other areas in the transfer market and are likely to use that money the invest elsewhere.

Graham Potter to maker Carlos Soler decision at West Ham

Since joining West Ham last summer, Soler has featured 27 times across all competitions, scored one goal and provided one assist as he has struggled to make an impact.

Of those 27 appearances, only 13 have come from the start as he has struggled to nail down a position under either Julen Lopetegui or Potter.

Potter’s side is well-stocked, with James Ward-Prowse, Lucas Paqueta, Edson Alvarez, Thomas Soucek and Guido Rodriguez competing for just two midfield spots.

Sources say it will be up to the manager and his staff to make the final decision about the Spaniard’s permanent signing at the end of the season.

Oumar Solet and Taylor Harwood-Bellis on London Stadium shortlist

While Soler is not part of West Ham’s long-term plans, they are looking to invest in other areas of their team including their ineffective back line.

Football Insider revealed on 4 April that West Ham want to sign Udinese’s Oumar Solet as a replacement for Konstantinos Mavropanos at centre-back.

The 25-year-old is seen as the ideal fit for Potter’s side thanks to his strength, physicality and speed, and sources say Udinese will be open to offers.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 4 March that Southampton star Taylor Harwood-Bellis is wanted by West Ham and Crystal Palace.
