Orta reveals Leeds striker pecking order after massive summer overhaul, blow for 24-yr-old
By Harry Sykes
Leeds United director of football Victor Orta made it clear that deadline day signing Pierre-Michel Lasogga is viewed as the team’s first choice striker following the massive summer overhaul.
During a Q&A with supporters on Facebook on Monday night, the Elland Road recruitment chief claimed he was “really happy” with the four forwards signed the summer.
Lasogga and Pawel Cibicki arrived on deadline day following the earlier arrivals of Dutchman Jay-Roy Grot and Ghanian Caleb Ekuban.
Lasogga, 25, has arrived on a season-long loan from Hamburg but is the most senior of the quartet after extensive experience in the Bundesliga.
He has been signed to spearhead the attack following the £15million sale of Chris Wood to Burnley.

“We decided in a meeting after the departure of Wood to try and change the situation of Wood for three players,” Orta said in the Facebook video, which was posted on the official Leeds Twitter account.
“One more [established] player like Lasogga, he has played more than 150 matches in the Bundesliga, and two signings, really good young prospects for now and for the future. This is the reason that we signed Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki.
“Because with one player, we can swap with three, and the chances to integrate these strikers in the future for our squad can be really important, and obviously we have the presence of Caleb Ekuban.
“I think in the end we’ve made a really good attacking line and we’re really happy with the four strikers that we have”.
Orta appears to discount the possibility of Kemar Roofe, who has scored four goals in the last two Leeds matches as a stop-gap striker, continuing to lead the line.
The 24-year-old has said that it is his preference to play in a central role and he is keen to stay up front.
Ahead of Leeds’ Championship clash against Burton on Saturday, it appears that Lasogga is in line to spearhead the attack, with Grot and Cibicki primed as understudies.
Ekuban is currently sidelined with a foot injury sustained in the recent win at Sunderland.
In other Leeds United transfer news, the club have secured an out of window striker signing after agreeing the terms of a deal.
