Out from the shadows: This Chelsea ace is 2016 most improved player of the year
By Dominic Toner
Football Insider names Chelsea’s most improved player of 2016.
Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses is the standout candidate for the most improved after becoming a crucial player this season.
The 26-year-old spent the first half of 2016 on loan at West Ham and was expected to be shipped out by manager Antonio Conte in the summer, but he has been transformed into a new player by the Italian.
Chelsea defender David Luiz has looked much sharper since he re-signed for the club in the summer, but it’s Moses who has enjoyed a shock turnaround at Stamford Bridge to become a nailed on starter.
The Blues signed Moses in 2012 from Wigan and he played a bit-part role for the club that season, with his best success coming when he helped lift the Europa League trophy.

The Nigeria international has been an attacker for most of his career and he spent three consecutive seasons away from the club on loan, with spells at Liverpool, Stoke and West Ham.
He failed to make inroads at any of those teams and there appeared to be no chance of him reviving his Chelsea career.
Moses has managed to come out from the shadows this season and is now recognised as one of the club’s best performers by supporters.
Blues manager Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation after a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal, with Moses and Marcos Alonso becoming wing-backs.
Chelsea are on an 11-game winning run in the Premier League since the change of system and Moses has started in every one of those games.
He has given the side such energy down the right flank and is currently streaks ahead of Branislav Ivanovic in the pecking order.
Moses has shown that he can provide a great attacking threat and also shown how much he has improved defensively this year.
