Rangers midfielder Jason Holt is set to hold talks with League One side Fleetwood, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that the 25-year-old, who didn’t travel to Spain for the Gers’ pre-season tour, is set to have discussions on Monday with the side managed by former Ger Joey Barton.
Holt is not in Steven Gerrard’s plans and is allowed to move on from Ibrox this summer.
The former Hearts man made 33 appearances for the Gers last season but despite this he has been deemed surplus to requirements by the new era at Ibrox.
Football Insider verdict
It is best for all concerned that Jason Holt gets his move away from Ibrox wrapped up as soon as possible. Despite featuring for the Gers on a semi-regular basis last season Steven Gerrard has decided that he won’t feature in his plans for next season, and he needs to move on for the sake of his career. Holt has been at Ibrox for three seasons but he has struggled to hold down a first-team place in that time since joining the Gers from Hearts. The indication that he is being allowed to leave perhaps signals that Gerrard and Mark Allen are set to identify the midfield area as one that needs to be strengthened going forward. As for Holt, no doubt working with former Gers man Joey Barton will certainly be interesting, and Gers fans will no doubt wish him the best of luck in the future. It didn’t really work out for him at Ibrox but he did a decent enough job.
