Out-of-sorts midfielder axed in Bruce 4-2-3-1: Best possible Aston Villa XI v Cardiff

By Amir Mir

Steve Bruce must make four changes when his Aston Villa side travel to Wales to take on Cardiff on Monday afternoon.

Villa drew their last fixture 1-1 when striker Jonathan Kodjia’s late penalty secured a point for the home team.

Now, Ross McCormack, Aaron Tshibola, Albert Adomah and Gary Gardner should come into the starting XI.

As a result, Kodjia, the out-of-sorts Westwood, Leandro Bacuna and Jordan Ayew should make way for the Championship clash.

Summer signing McCormack should be given the opportunity up front to showcase his ability in the absence of Kodjia, who has not yet been given permission to play in the match as he is set to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Winger Adomah, who impressed as a substitute against Leeds, must start and help provide the creativity with Grealish on the left.

Midfield outcast Tshibola should be given a run in the side, so he can impress his manager, who is still trying to find his best XI.

Gary Gardner should return to the midfield alongside the hard-hitting Mile Jedinak, while Bruce should maintain the back four that played against Leeds.

Goalkeeper Mark Bunn should also continue between the sticks, despite the shot-stopper making a mistake against the Whites.

Bruce’s side have already picked up three points against Neil Warnock’s men when the Midlands outfit beat them 3-1 during the reverse fixture.

In other Aston Villa team news, Steve Bruce has offered his thoughts on the future of this 21-year-old ace.
