Darren Bent has been left head over heels for Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after his goal-scoring performance against Manchester United on Monday evening.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England striker, who is a boyhood Arsenal fan, says that the Gabonese forward’s recent performances puts him up with Sergio Aguero as the Premier League’s best striker, leading the likes of Harry Kane and Tammy Abraham.
As detailed by BBC Sport, Aubameyang sits joint-second with Abraham in the top-scorers’ list with seven Premier League goals, the Arsenal man having netted at a rate of a goal every two shots this season.
Having seen Aubameyang score a deft chip against United at Old Trafford, Bent says that his form and conversion rate makes him among the most lethal centre forwards in the division.
Bent told Football Insider: “I would have to say right now he is on par with Aguero. Them two first, then Harry Kane and maybe Tammy Abraham and then the rest. He’s right up there at the minute. His finishing is tremendous. His finish (v Man Utd) was unbelievable.
“(On seven goals from 14 shots on target) That’s outrageous. He’s so important to the way Arsenal play, the pace, everything. He’s the one shining light at the minute. His finish was just out of this world, extraordinary, so you’d have to say he’s right up there.”
Aubameyang has scored at a rate of a goal-per-game across all competitions for the Gunners so far this campaign, finding his way onto the score sheet in the Europa League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.
He has netted in all but one of his seven Premier League outings this season, with title-chasers Liverpool the only side who managed to keep him at bay.
