Stan Collymore: Damning verdict on new Tottenham striker
By Harvey Byrne
Outspoken football pundit Stan Collymore has delivered a withering verdict on Tottenham’s new signing Vincent Janssen.
The former TalkSport host has said that Spurs still need another striker, or possibly two, if they want to compete at the top again next season. He also claimed that Janssen may find it difficult to adapt to the Premier League and compared him to Middlesbrough flop Afonso Alves.
Trust me, if you’re relying on Janssen and Son for 15-20 goals, you’re deluded. Son is NO back up striker. https://t.co/uWbzLXlB9R

So did Alonso Alves on leaving Heerenveen for the Premier League. ???? https://t.co/vcqcEQY5xT

The former Liverpool star has stated that he thinks a ‘proven’ Premier League forward would be better for the White Hart Lane club going into next season, and has named West Brom’s Saido Berahino and Liverpool’s Christian Benteke as the two stars that would improve Tottenham.
However, English-based players come at a premium and both players would cost more than Janssen’s £18.8million move, with West Brom rejecting £20million for Berahino and Liverpool valuing Benteke at £30million.
Was thinking more off the peg than Jannsen( promising but huge jump to Prem). Benteke? Berahino? Already bedded in. https://t.co/OvpN7GpJsn

The Netherlands international bagged his first goal for Spurs in a pre-season friendly against Rotherham on Thursday.
Collymore also stated that Spurs could not expect to see the same quality per game ratio from star striker Harry Kane next season.
Another striker, maybe 2. Folly to think you can eek out the volume of quality/games from Kane as last 2 yrs. https://t.co/8l65DSwKZs

The Spurs man returned from a dreadful tournament at this summer’s European Championships where he failed to find the back of the net with ten shots, with four on target and six off target.
There have been claims that the striker was tired after playing in the 2015 Under-21 European Championships and 50 games in all competitions for Spurs in the last year.
Mauricio Pochettino will of course be hoping to prove Collymore’s claims wrong this season, as he looks to build a squad that can compete in the Premier League and the Champions League.
In other Tottenham team news, Clinton N’jie, Nabil Bentaleb and Alex Pritchard have all been told by Tottenham to find new clubs.
