‘Outstanding’ Man United ace surely fears for his XI spot after what Ruben Amorim said
Ruben Amorim might have some tricky decisions on his hands in the coming weeks after his latest reveal at Man United.
Amorim was under huge pressure as Man United boss just a matter of weeks ago, but after three consecutive wins over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton, the Red Devils are in fine form.
In a shock turn of events, Man United beat Liverpool at Anfield before a wild six-goal thriller at Old Trafford against the Seagulls, seeing them rise to sixth in the Premier League table.
While Casemiro’s goal should not have counted due to a Luke Shaw foul in the build-up, Bryan Mbeumo was on hand to secure all three points, even despite a late comeback from the visitors.
Luke Shaw has been tremendous for Ruben Amorim this season
Due to Casemiro‘s goal not being chalked off, Shaw notched his first goal contribution since the 2023-24 campaign, and the 30-year-old has been experiencing a run of games in the team.
Mainly due to injuries, the England international made just 12 appearances in all competitions, and only made 15 in the season before, but the makeshift centre-back has already made nine this term.
Dubbed “outstanding” by Gary Neville back in 2021 [Man United website], supporters have always been aware of his talents, but injuries have seriously hampered his career over the years.
Now, despite remaining fit for several games, he might have to prepare himself for an extended spell on the bench after Amorim’s latest update on Lisandro Martinez‘s comeback from injury.
Lisandro Martinez edges closer to Man United return
Speaking in his press conference, Amorim touched on just how close Martinez was to returning to the pitch permanently, saying: “He’s feeling well. The knee is responding really well, so I don’t want to say one specific day or one week.
“I don’t know, but it’s near to start the training with the team. Then it depends on the rhythm of Licha, if he wins the place or not, that will depend on him, but he’s closer to returning to training.”
With Harry Maguire taking a back seat more regularly, and Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro more suitable for the manager’s tactics, it is only plausible that Shaw will be the one to make way.
Martinez is one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League on his day, and if Amorim expects the player to return sooner rather than later, Shaw must be looking over his shoulder every day now.
