Oxlade-Chamberlain suggests Alexander-Arnold is staying at Liverpool with cryptic new message
Trent Alexander-Arnold was sent a two-word message by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after Liverpool secured the Premier League title.
Alexander-Arnold started for the first time since early March as Arne Slot‘s side put Tottenham to the sword on Sunday, with five goals after an early setback as Liverpool confirmed their 20th crown in style.
Dominic Solanke’s 12th-minute header was quickly rendered mute by Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo’s strikes prior to half-time, and Mohamed Salah added a fourth before a Spurs own goal.
Liverpool’s number 66 put Slot’s side on the brink in their previous match with a late winner against Leicester, and though Alexander-Arnold’s future is in doubt, he was front and centre of the celebrations.

Oxlade-Chamberlain suggests Liverpool stay for Alexander-Arnold
As one of six Liverpool academy products to have played their part in a dominant Premier League title win for the Reds, Alexander-Arnold‘s six-word message for the Anfield faithful was a heartfelt one.
Unlike Salah and Virgil van Dijk – who will lift the trophy against Crystal Palace on 18 May – Alexander-Arnold hasn’t penned a new deal at Liverpool, as the days left on his contract tick by towards expiry.
Player | Seasons | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Yellow/Red Cards |
Trent Alexander-Arnold | 9 | 370 | 27 | 95 | 49 |
Alexander-Arnold posted on Instagram in the aftermath of Liverpool’s title celebrations (28 April), and after the Covid-19 pandemic prevented fans from being inside Anfield five years ago, he said: “For the City. For the Fans.”
Below the 26-year-old’s post, fellow 2020 title winner Oxlade-Chamberlain left the exact same comment twice in the form of gifs, both of which said “Another one”.
Alexander-Arnold will indeed lift another title, but Oxlade-Chamberlain’s comment could also be interpreted to suggest that he wants the right-back to sign ‘another’ contract at Anfield.
Alexander-Arnold future already decided at Liverpool
Although Alexander-Arnold has an entire city (at least the red half of it) desperate for him to stay put at Liverpool, his big-money move to Real Madrid looks increasingly likely to come to pass on a free transfer.
Wayne Rooney suggested that until a contract is signed, Alexander-Arnold could still stay put at Anfield, but Slot is already in the market for a new right-back with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong linked.
Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 25 April that Alexander-Arnold’s switch to Madrid is “done and dusted” already, and that leaves Liverpool fans to savour the last few games they have to watch an academy player who has risen to the very top.
