Palmer and Mbeumo react to Ivan Toney after Man United transfer reveal
Cole Palmer and Bryan Mbeumo have reacted to a new post by Ivan Toney amid reports of him potentially being set to join Manchester United this summer.
United are looking to bolster their attacking depth this summer, with numerous incomings expected as they look to improve drastically on a dismal 2024/25 campaign.
Versatile forward Matheus Cunha has already signed in a big-money move from Wolves, and the Red Devils are expected to sanction outgoings soon, with Jadon Sancho, Antony and Barcelona-linked Marcus Rashford all seemingly expected to depart.
Brentford attacker Mbeumo is closing in on a move to Old Trafford, as revealed to Football Insider by former United scout Mick Brown, but it looks as if they will not be done with him amid interest in former Bees man Toney, who currently plies his trade with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

Toney posts Instagram update amid Man United interest
Brown also revealed to Football Insider on Thursday (3 July) that the Red Devils are considering a surprise move to sign Toney this summer, with the 29-year-old interested in a return to England after a year at Al-Ahli.
United need to bring in more firepower up-front, and a path to capture Toney could be opened up if struggling striker Rasmus Hojlund leaves amid interest from Serie A champions Napoli.
Toney recently struggled to make an impact on England duty after a surprise call-up by Thomas Tuchel, but he looks to be in good spirits ahead of a potential new challenge next season, as he recently took to Instagram to post a slideshow of pictures of him away on holiday with the caption: “They ain’t speak my language,” with former Brentford teammate Rico Henry also pictured alongside him.
The 29-year-old’s message was reacted to by a number of players, with England teammate Cole Palmer and former teammate and fellow United target Mbeumo each choosing to leave a like.
The likes of James Maddison, Morgan Gibbs-White, Yoane Wissa, Noni Madueke and Reece James all followed suit, as did Roberto Firmino, who is one of Toney’s current teammates in Saudi Arabia.
United could face competition for Toney but should look to sign him
Football Insider verdict
The Red Devils’ torrid 2024/25 campaign is now a thing of the past, and they have to look forward with excitement for what the future may hold under Amorim, as it surely cannot get any worse than last term.
Their attacking woes were on display for all to see last season, with main strikers Hojlund and Zikzee scoring just seven Premier League goals between them, while Amad finished as the club’s top scorer in the league with a relatively low eight strikes.
Toney would add a completely different dimension to their attacking options if he was to join, with his strong aerial prowess and great link-up play being something that United have lacked from their centre-forward options in recent seasons.
Appearances | Goals | Assists |
85 | 36 | 11 |
He still has a good few years operating at the top level, at 29-years-old, but an issue United may face is that other teams also look to sign him this summer, after Arsenal were credited with an interest in Toney before he made the move to the middle east.
Regardless of any outside noise, they should definitely prioritise signing him this summer, as he could join for a low fee as their main striker ahead of either Hojlund or Zirkzee, and would surely act as a great foil for both Cunha and Mbeumo to lead the club to success.
