Pascal Struijk and Illan Meslier react to Lukas Nmecha’s message after Leeds sighting

Lukas Nmecha made his first public appearance for Leeds United on Sunday in their latest link-up with Red Bull.

Daniel Farke‘s refreshed squad is slowly taking shape as Leeds prepare for their return to the Premier League, with reinforcements needed despite the Whites’ 100-point, 95-goal haul in the Championship.

Nmecha was the first of three additions to be made so far and has been joined in Leeds’ Premier League squad by imposing centre-backs Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw, with further additions on the way.

Leeds have taken a laser-focused approach to the window so far and could yet make sales to aid their PSR position, with the likes of Pascal Struijk and Illan Meslier potentially being surplus to requirements.

Nmecha sends Leeds United message after Red Bull appearance

Red Bull‘s investment into Leeds last summer has split opinion, but the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League has seen the energy drinks conglomerate and 49ers Enterprises invest further into the club.

Football Insider revealed back in May that Leeds’ transfer budget could amount to £150million this summer, and the signings of Nmecha, Bijol and Bornauw have only taken up roughly £25m of that figure.

Nmecha’s move from Wolfsburg comes on a free transfer and will only cost Leeds two years’ worth of wages, and the German international represented Leeds at the British Grand Prix on Sunday (6 July).

Wilfried Gnonto and Largie Ramazani donned Red Bull kit alongside Nmecha, as Struijk and Meslier were two of several Leeds players to like the latter’s Instagram post which he captioned with: “Silverstone”.

Leeds in need of further transfers after Sunderland statement

Football Insider Verdict

Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League was confirmed as far back as April, yet only three new additions have been made with less than six weeks to go until their Elland Road opener against Everton in August.

Sunderland only sealed a top-flight place when they beat Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final on 24 May, but have already broken their transfer record to beat Leeds to Habib Diarra’s signature.

With reinforcements needed between the sticks, on the left-hand side of both defence and attack, and up front before they face Everton, Leeds need a busy few weeks of transfer business to show they are ready for the Premier League.
