Pascal Struijk disappoints Leeds United teammate Wilfried Gnonto in social media post

Leeds United may be in a celebratory period at this moment in time after sealing their promotion back to the Premier League, but one key man has disappointed another.

Ater Daniel Farke‘s side thrashed Stoke City 6-0 on Monday (21 April), victory for Burnley over Sheffield United later that day confirmed the Yorkshire side had won automatic promotion back to the top-flight.

For some players, there will be some frustration their involvement in that has been limited recently, with one such example being Pascal Struijk.

Having continued to be a key figure for the club earlier in the campaign, Struijk has been absent for Leeds in the last few weeks due to injury.

Despite that, the centre-back has clearly still be keen enjoy the celebrations that have come since promotion was confirmed.

Pascal Struijk sends reflective message

On Friday (25 April), Struijk took to Instagram to look back on some of the events from recent times, such as his injury rehabilitation and those promotion celebrations.

The Leeds man also included a caption on that post which read: “Last few months were (mostly) nice.”

Although a number of his teammates, including Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle and Junior Firpo were featured in the images, one player who did not appear was Wilfried Gnonto.

It now appears as though the Leeds winger was somewhat disappointed not to get the not to feature in Struijk’s post.

Commenting on that post from his teammate, Gnonto wrote: “Can’t believe I didn’t make the cut”.

The Italy international then also added a teary-eyed emoji to his response to Struijk.

Leeds United set for a summer of speculation

Football Insider Verdict

While the focus right now at Elland Road will be on fighting Burnley for the Premier League title and enjoying this success, there are some big calls looming for the club.

It is understood several Saudi Arabian clubs were interested in Gnonto in January, and given he has not started consistently since then, it will be interesting to see if he pushes for a move in the summer.

Meanwhile, there has been speculation around whether Leeds could now sack manager Daniel Farke given his previously poor record when managing in the Premier League.

Given there is going to be pressure on those at the club to avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship, those are just some of the issues that must be ruled on before next season starts.

This summer is therefore surely going to be a very busy one at Leeds.
