‘Past it 10 years ago’ – Rangers fans mock Celtic as the Hoops close in ‘desperate’ signing

Celtic are on the hunt to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to help boost their hopes of winning the Scottish Premiership this season.

The former Liverpool star and England international has been without a club since he was since he was Besiktas in 2025.

Despite being linked to numerous clubs since then, the 32-year-old central midfielder is yet to sign a new contract elsewhere.

However, this looks like it could be about to change, with Celtic in advanced talks to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain, much to the amusement of the Rangers fans.

Rangers fans mock Celtic as they eye Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Rangers and Celtic have always had a heated rivalry, and this season it is no different, with both Old Firm clubs going for the Scottish Premiership title.

The Gers have made multiple new additions over the past month to increase their hopes of winning the league, with Ryan Naderi one example, with the striker moving to Ibrox for £4.7million on deadline day.

In comparison, while Celtic did bring in five new players across the winter window, each one was on loan, with the board refusing to splash the cash.

Now, with the Hoops looking to bring in another cheap signing, Rangers fans have been quick to mock Celtic for their lack of spending.

Many of the Ibrox faithful were also quick to mock Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury record, with the 32-year-old struggling for fitness throughout his career.

Was Oxlade-Chamberlain any good at Besiktas?

While Oxlade-Chamberlain did have a fine career in the Premier League, playing for both Arsenal and Liverpool, little is ever said about his time in Turkey.

Joining Besiktas in 2023, he featured heavily in his first season, making 30 appearances where he scored four times. This helped the club win the Turkish Cup.

However, a torn thigh muscle did also keep him sidelined between the end of December and mid-April.

In the following campaign, he struggled to make appearances until he was recalled to the side in December 2024.

Yet, injuries struck again at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, and he missed the final few games.

Then, in August 2025, his contract was terminated a year early, ending a mixed time in Turkey that was haunted by injuries.
