‘Patrick Bamford finished at Leeds after Farke’s Newcastle transfer plan emerges’

Leeds United and Daniel Farke are facing an important summer of recruitment after clinching promotion back to the Premier League.

The Whites have enjoyed a stellar campaign, clinching the Championship title after winning 100 points and scoring a whopping 95 goals.

But with Leeds set to compete in next season’s Premier League, Farke is keen to bolster his side’s firepower.

The gap between the Championship and the top tier has widened in recent years, with this season marking the second campaign in which all three newly promoted sides have suffered relegation, a fate the Elland Road club will be desperate to avoid.

Farke sets his sights on a move for Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson

As Leeds strive to achieve Premier League survival next season, Farke must add top-flight experience to his squad.

Callum Wilson has Premier League nous in abundance, and the Whites are targeting a free transfer swoop for the Newcastle forward this summer, according to The Sun [16 May].

The striker has proven his goal-scoring tendencies in the top flight over the years with both the Magpies and his former club Bournemouth, but is out of contract at the end of the season, having slipped behind Alexander Isak in Eddie Howe’s pecking order.

Wilson move could spell the end of Bamford’s Leeds career

Bamford has been an excellent servant to the Elland Road side over the years and has now won two Championship titles with the West Yorkshire outfit.

The one-cap England international played a vital role when Leeds won the second-tier title under Marcelo Bielsa in 2019/20, scoring 16 goals in 45 league appearances.

He went on to impressively notch 17 goals in 38 Premier League appearances as the Whites finished ninth in the top-flight in 2020/21.

But the Englishman is no longer a regular feature at Elland Road, and failed to make a Championship start this season, instead making 17 substitute appearances.

While Leeds look to strengthen their ranks by signing the likes of Wilson, they will have to sanction the exits of some of their current stars.

Bamford is an obvious candidate for the exit door in West Yorkshire, having seen his game time drastically diminish under Farke in the Championship.
