Patrick Bamford told ‘sort yourself out’ after ‘getting a big head’ at Leeds – expert
Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford has been urged to “get his act together” before the new Championship campaign.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie revealed he thinks Bamford might be “getting a big head” following his past success.
Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion last season both automatically and then in the play-off final against Southampton.
The fact that the Whites underperformed in terms of expected goals throughout the campaign impacted that.
The 30-year-old has scored 134 goals across his career, with 60 of those coming in a Leeds shirt.
Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford has been believing his own hype
Bamford only scored eight goals last season in 33 Championship appearances last season.
The experienced striker is now one of the veterans in the Leeds changing room and is under contract till 2026 at Elland Road.
“I thought he might be getting a big head,” McAvennie told Football Insider.
“He scored goals and then they went up to the Premiership and scored goals, you start believing your own hype.
“That work you do to get you there, you’ve got to do that day in and day out to stay there.
“You can have a jolly good time off the park, but when you’re in training, you’ve got to work your socks off; maybe this boy’s just not.
“He’s proven he can score goals, maybe it’s because there’s no ammunition, but I’ve seen enough to think, ‘he could’ve scored there.’
“So, he’s got to get his act together.

“If he’s a Leeds fan, is what he says; he has got to lead by example because he can do that.
“But he’s got to start scoring goals and starting leading and showing an example to the young kids coming through.”
