Patrick Dorgu must start for Man United vs Everton, his international stats speak volumes

Patrick Dorgu has been in and out of the Man United squad, but his superb performance against Scotland on 18 November will make Ruben Amorim rethink his starting XI.

In recent matches, Dorgu endured a terrible game for Man United against Brighton on 25 October, highlighting his issues with getting back into the starting XI.

Yet, on 8 November in Man United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Dorgu was restored to the first team and put in an excellent performance.

The Dane has been battling with Diogo Dalot for a starting berth this season, yet his latest display during the international break will certainly catch the attention of Amorim.

Dorgu delights despite devastating Denmark defeat to Scotland

Andy Robertson was emotional after Scotland’s 4-2 victory over Denmark, as they sealed a return to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years.

However, in spite of the defeat, United‘s left-wingback was on fire for the Red and Whites and would’ve delighted Red Devil fans, who are keen for him to maintain a consistent role in the starting XI.

The 21-year-old was extremely active defensively, racking up four clearances and eight recoveries as well as winning eight of his 14 duels.

Moreover, from an attacking perspective, the number 13 was excellent, delivering three key passes and creating one big chance as the Danes fought hard to claim at least a point.

When Denmark went 2-1 down in the 78th minute, Dorgu responded quickly to tuck away a loose ball in the 18-yard box which nearly ended up as the pivotal winner to secure automatic World Cup qualification.

Whilst the result was not what the United man would’ve wanted, his tireless running and positivity would’ve been noted by Amorim.

Ruben Amorim to consider major starting XI call vs Everton

Turning our attention back to the Premier League, the Red Devils host Everton at Old Trafford on 24 November as they look to go six games unbeaten.

The Portuguese manager faces a crucial call of who will play down the left-hand side with Dalot disappointing in Dorgu’s absence in recent matches.

The Dane’s dynamism and pace should give him the nod over the ex-Inter Milan man to assist in breaking down an expected dogged Toffees rearguard.

The 21-year-old fizzed in nine crosses against the Tartan Army, highlighting the immense benefit of starting him down the left due to his dominant foot, an attribute Dalot cannot provide on the flank.
