Patrick Roberts faces Birmingham loan turmoil as £3m transfer news emerges

Patrick Roberts’ loan at Birmingham City may be in jeopardy as the Blues’ interest in Yang Hyun-Jun is renewed.

Roberts joined Birmingham on loan from Sunderland in the summer, where he has quickly become a regular starter.

The winger has two goals and two assists in the Championship for the Blues to date as they look to return to the Premier League.

However, his future at the Birmingham outfit may now be in doubt as they look to continue their pursuit of Yang.

Birmingham City eye deal for Yang Hyun-Jun

According to Sky Sports on 18 December, Birmingham City are once again looking to sign Yang.

The Blues were keen on signing the Celtic winger in the summer, and he was close to moving to St. Andrew’s for £3million.

However, the deal fell through as Birmingham felt the need to move on to other targets after continuously waiting for Celtic to sanction the deal.

Nevertheless, both Birmingham City and Norwich are now in the race to sign the South Korean international, with Preston also an admirer.

However, if the deal goes through, it could end Roberts’ time at the Blues.

Yang plays on the same side are the Sunderland loanee, and surely Chris Davies would rather start someone he has permanently rather than on loan.

Therefore, Roberts’ playing time at St. Andrews could be cut, or the winger could even be sent back to the Black Cats.

One saving grace for Roberts is that Yang has not impressed in recent weeks at Celtic, and if this form were to continue in the Championship, it would give the Sunderland star a good chance of staying in the starting XI.

Birmingham City set for busy January transfer window

With Birmingham aiming to get into the Premier League, it appears that they are willing to spend next month to make this happen.

Reports suggest that Birmingham want to bring in a striker, left-back and a midfielder in January to help add some extra quality to the side.

If Yang is to also join, it would give the Blues plenty of quality in their depth ahead of the second half of the season.

However, it remains to be seen if this will be enough to win promotion this campaign.
