Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has revealed he is a big fan of Everton starlet Tom Davies, stating he’s a “very good player.”
The 18-year-old midfielder has become a frequent part of the Toffees’ senior team under Ronald Koeman after being handed his debut by Roberto Martinez back in April.
The young star has started eight of Everton’s last nine league games in the midfield and Merson believes Davies could now be set for a call-up to the England squad for their match with German and qualifier against Lithuania at the end of the month.
“I hope so, I hope so,” started Merson speaking on Sky Sports’ Fantasy Football show when asked about a Davies England call-up.
“People might say it’s a bit early, but I would put him into the squad. I think he’s a very good player. I’m a big fan of his and I’d like to see him in the squad.
“Even if he just trains with them and just to see what it’s like. He might settle in like a fish out of water…… It’s a duck out water isn’t it.”
Davies has made 17 appearances for the Everton first team in total with his only goal to date coming in a crushing 4-0 victory over Manchester City in January.
He will now be looking to continue playing for Koeman’s team with 10 matches left of the Premier League campaign as the Toffees seek a top seven finish.
Everton will face Hull at Goodison Park next on Saturday where they will be looking to push on from their 3-0 win against West Brom at the weekend.
In other Everton news, Gareth Barry has refused to rule out a move to this Championship club.
