Paul Merson has named his fantasy six-a-side team compiled of Tottenham and Manchester United players ahead of Sunday’s fixture, but surprisingly he has omitted star Harry Kane.
Now, former attacking midfielder Merson has obviously got close ties to Arsenal after 15 years at the club and some may claim he’s bias.
However, the Sky Sports pundit named five Spurs stars in his team, which included Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele, Christian Erkisen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and finally, Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford upfront.
Merson didn’t offer any reason for why he picked the 19-year-old over Kane, but he did have some kind words to say about Tottenham instead.
“I’ve gone top heavy on Tottenham here and I do that because I just think with Man United their fixtures, they can’t get in the top four now, they’ve put all their eggs in one basket,” told Merson, as shown on the Sky Sports website.
“Don’t get me wrong if this was a game that Man United had a chance it would have been a lot different, but I expect Tottenham to win this last game at White Hart Lane.
“Forget the West Ham game, before that, let’s be honest; they’ve been absolutely outstanding in the last three months or so.”
Goal machine Kane is a strange overlook from Merson with the England international considered to be among the best forwards in the Premier League.
He has also returned a stunning 21 goals in 27 appearances for Tottenham in the Premier League this season, while Rashford has found the net just five times in 30 outings in the English top-flight this season.
Kane’s goals have played a strong part in helping Tottenham to what is expected to be a second placed finish this season and he will be hoping to get on the score sheet once more against the sixth placed Red Devils for the last ever game at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
