Paul Merson predicts Liverpool v Crystal Palace

By Harvey Byrne

Paul Merson has predicted a Liverpool win in an enthralling encounter against Crystal Palace this weekend.

The two Premier League clubs are currently gearing up for a top-flight clash at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool are sat in third place in the league table and are looking to secure a spot in the top four with five matches to go.

Meanwhile, Palace are battling for survival in 15th and currently sit seven points clear of the drop zone with six games to play themselves.

Now, Jurgen Klopp’s team are the favourites going into the encounter and Sky Sports pundit Merson believes Liverpool’s firepower will earn them the points in a 3-2 win.

“Palace will take the game to Liverpool and they have the weapons on the break to make this very interesting,” told Merson to the Sky Sports website.

“If they play to his strengths, Christian Benteke could be a handful and Wilfried Zaha has looked in the mood since the turn of the year.

“When teams come onto them and attack, that’s when Palace are dangerous and Liverpool have slipped up a few times against sides down the table.

“It should be an entertaining game with plenty of goals but Liverpool’s attacking firepower will just get them over the line.”

Liverpool have picked up 37 points from their 16 matches at Anfield this season, placing them in fourth in the home form league table.

However, Palace have also been strong on their travels and sit in eighth in the away from table with 18 points picked up from 16 matches on the road.

The Eagles also ran out victors last season at Anfield with goals coming from Yannick Bolasie and Scott Dann to cancel out a Philippe Coutinho strike.

However, Klopp’s men are stronger this season and will be looking for a repeat of the 4-2 win earlier in the campaign.
