Paul Merson predicts West Ham v Chelsea

By Dominic Toner

Paul Merson believes that West Ham will suffer a defeat against Chelsea on Monday and claims they are a better side away from home.

The Hammers host their London rivals in the Premier League and will start the game as underdogs.

Slaven Bilic’s side are currently ninth-placed in the league and have recorded consecutive draws against West Brom and Watford in their last two games.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are the runaway leaders at the top of the Premier League table and have been in formidable form all season.

West Ham suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Blues in the previous league meeting at Stamford Bridge, but did get the better of them with the same scoreline in the EFL Cup at the London Stadium.

Sky Sports pundit believes that Chelsea will be too strong on Monday and record a 3-1 win, claiming that West Ham are better suited to playing away.

“Chelsea look like a well-oiled machine at the moment which is showing now signs of any faults.,” Merson told Sky Sports. “They did lose to West Ham at the London Stadium in the EFL Cup earlier in the season, but I do not expect a repeat performance.

“I expect Chelsea to win this game. West Ham have struggled in front of their own fans and are a better side away from home.”

West Ham are now trying to consolidate their position in the top half of the table and don’t have too much left to play for, with the European spots seemingly out of reach.

However, this is exactly the game that the fans will be eagerly anticipating and will want to get one over their rivals.

Bilic’s side have struggled for consistency this season and it has taken them time to settle at their new ground.

They are building towards a fresh bid for Europe next season and will be keen to prove they can compete with the top teams in England.
