Paul Merson: This could be a big moment for Tottenham in the PL title race (not Swansea or Watford game)

Paul Merson believes Eric Dier’s opening goal against Burnley last Saturday could prove to be a “big, big” moment for Tottenham in the Premier League title race.

The 23-year-old opened the scoring for Spurs after 68 minutes by wonderfully controlling the ball from a corner before firing the ball into the net.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side sealed all three points during that tough fixture at Turf Moor when Son Heung-Min scored 13 minutes from time.

Since then, the north London club have recorded a remarkable win against Swansea where they scored three goals in the last six minutes to win 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Furthermore, they also picked up an easy three points against Watford on Saturday afternoon to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to just four points.

However, former Arsenal playmaker Merson hailed Dier for his goal last weekend because of the significance it can hold.

“It was a good finish,” Merson told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports News HQ. “He could have easily panicked. Great composure.

“We could look back at the come what may as a big, big goal.”

Versatile player Dier has been a crucial player for the club in recent months, playing in a back three or the middle of the park for the team.

Over the course of the season, he has played 29 Premier League games, finding the back of the net on two occasions.

The England international was once again an instrumental figure for Pochettino’s side during their clash against Watford as he scored the second goal of the game.
