Paul Merson: This is what Tottenham must do for the sake of the fans
By Amir Mir
Paul Merson has stated that “for the sake of the fans” Tottenham must finish above Arsenal at the end of the season regardless of what happens in the Premier League title race.
Spurs recorded a landmark 2-0 win against Burnley on Saturday afternoon to reduce Chelsea’s lead at the top of the table after their shock loss against Crystal Palace.
The result at Turf Moor for Mauricio Pochettino’s side meant that they are now 12 points clear of their north London rivals, but they have played two games more.
The Gunners will host fourth-placed Manchester City on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates with manager Arsene Wenger coming under increasing pressure.
Prior to Tottenham picking up the win at Burnley, Merson told Soccer Saturday, which was aired live on Sky Sports News HQ, that Spurs must not let their fans down.

“If they cannot win the league, they have to finish above Arsenal,” Merson told Soccer Saturday.
“I know they are a long way clear now, they were before, they have to do that, for the fans sake.”
Under Arsene Wenger’s 20 year reign at Arsenal, they have always finished above their rivals in the table.
This was evident last season when the Gunners moved ahead of their neighbours on the last day of the season.
There will be a number of big games coming up for Pochettino’s side during the month of April, including playing Arsenal at White Hart Lane at the end of the month.
But, before that, they will play four Premier League encounters and take on London rivals Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup.
