Paul Pogba: Man United could pull U-turn and sign ‘young’ star amid future reveal – pundit

Kevin Phillips has urged Manchester United to green light Paul Pogba’s exit regardless of who the new manager might be.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Sunderland striker insisted the Red Devils could use the money saved on the 28-year-old’s wages to sign a “younger” star.

As reported by ESPN on Tuesday (1 February), United have asked Pogba and other wantaway stars to wait until a new manager is appointed before making a decision over their futures.

The Red Devils are reportedly hopeful the right hire could convince Pogba to sign a new deal instead of leaving on a free.

He has reportedly turned down a new contract, although ESPN claim an offer is still on the table.

However, Phillips suggested United should pull a U-turn and let him go.

Phillips told Football Insider’s Dylan Childs: “I think there’s always manager’s out there who could do that.

“But, from Manchester United’s point of view, I think it’d be best for both parties to part ways and start again.

“At times he’s been world-class but most of the time he’s not. I just think it’s going to cost a lot of money again. I would use that money to go and get someone who’s a bit younger.

“Someone young that’s willing to learn and is going to have years ahead of him. We have seen a few issues (with Pogba) so maybe someone else isn’t going to cause those issues.

“I just think it’d be a sensible decision for all parties if they parted and started fresh.”

Pogba signed his current terms back in August 2016.
