Paulo Bernardo responds as another exit confirmed at Celtic

Paulo Bernardo has reacted on social media following the news that the Celtic midfielder has lost another teammate ahead of next season.

The 23-year-old is experiencing a successful spell with the Hoops, having first arrived on loan from Benfica last season before a £3.5million deal was struck with the Portuguese giants [Sky Sports].

After scoring four goals in 33 appearances during his first 12 months with the Hoops, he went on to make another 44 appearances last term alongside the likes of Arne Engels, Callum McGregor, and Reo Hatate.

In addition to his club achievements, the midfielder has been away with Portugal Under-21s at Euro U21 this summer, though his side failed to get past the quarter-finals after losing to the Netherlands.

Brendan Rodgers will have been excited to welcome the player back for pre-season, but the 23-year-old will be without another teammate ahead of their friendly against Ajax on Thursday, 24 July.

Celtic wave goodbye to Luis Palma

Taking to Instagram (21 July), the official club account wrote: “Luis Palma has joined Lech Poznan on loan. Good luck, Luis,” after the player spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Olympiacos.

Bernardo, who enjoyed his second season in Celtic colours, liked the post as his teammate leaves the club in search of valuable minutes on the pitch in Poland.

Football Insider understood earlier this month that Palma was set to join a new club after rejecting offers from England, as well as Turkish and MLS clubs for Lech Poznan.

Brendan Rodgers needs backing to avoid Leicester City repeat

Football Insider verdict

Supporters were crushed when the Northern Irishman decided to leave Celtic Park for a role in the Premier League with Leicester City, and those same fans will want to avoid a repeat.

However, Mick Brown told Football Insider that Rodgers could look to quit Celtic should the board not support him during the summer transfer window, and there has been very little movement.

Kieran Tierney, Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand, and Ross Doohan have been joined by Japanese duo Hayato Inamura and Shin Yamada, but none of these moves have persuaded supporters.

In addition to the lack of transfer business this summer, the likes of Daizen Maeda and Cameron Carter-Vickers are being linked with exits, and that would seriously frustrate the manager.

Football Insider understands that Celtic are closing in on a new bumper deal for Maeda, which would be huge news, especially after the club failed to replace Kyogo Furuhashi during the winter window.

The ambitions heading into the new season will be to claim the Scottish Premiership title again, but going even further in the Champions League will be far more important for the Hoops.
