Pep Guardiola gives Phil Foden after-match Man City training session
Man City boss Pep Guardiola gave one of his passionate on-field training sessions to Phil Foden in the immediate aftermath of his team’s League Cup victory against Watford.
The defending Premier League champions progressed into the fourth round after a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes.
Foden played the entire game for the first time this season, and Guardiola deployed him as a false nine with Erling Haaland being rested.
After the final whistle, Guardiola came onto the pitch and delivered some words of advice and training to the England international about his performance.
The Man City boss was animated throughout the conversation as he provided his tactical advice to the 24-year-old.
Guardiola has given plenty of on-pitch coaching sessions to various players throughout his time in England, giving fans a glimpse into his style.
Man City may look to use Phil Foden as a false nine moving forward
Foden has proven himself to be a versatile option for Man City over the years, playing in a variety of positions.
After the club sold Julian Alvarez in the summer and opted not to replace him, Foden working as a false nine could be something that the club looks to do more frequently.
Guardiola could rely on the Englishman to provide some cover and competition to Haaland, offering him something different when needed.

Foden has only had limited game time so far this season, playing only 65 minutes across Man City’s opening five Premier League fixtures.
The attacking midfielder has yet to register a goal or an assist during this campaign across all competitions.
