‘Pep Guardiola has changed’ – Man City superstar to be replaced

Pep Guardiola is set to replace one of his true superstars at Manchester City this summer.

It has already been a busy transfer window for City, with Guardiola in the midst of a squad rebuild after his side ended last season 13 points adrift of title winners Liverpool.

The Manchester side have added the likes of Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Tijjani Reijnders to their ranks, but there have also been some high-profile exits.

Kevin De Bruyne’s ten-year stay at the Etihad came to an end, and goalkeeper Ederson could be the next senior player to depart, with Turkish giants Galatasaray interested.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Brazilian has noticed a change in Guardiola, and knows now is the right time to leave.

‘Ederson to be replaced at Man City’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Guardiola has reinvented himself, and Ederson is part of the “fresh wind” sweeping through the Man City squad.

The Citizens have been heavily linked with James Trafford, who left the club on a permanent deal two years ago to join Burnley.

Wyness added that it is the right time for Ederson to move on, as it makes space for a fresher, younger keeper to come in.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think it’s a shock. Actually, I think he can read the tea leaves from Pep, the change in Pep, the way he’s rededicated himself and he’s reinvented himself.

“Ederson sees that maybe he is part of that fresh wind sweeping through the Man City squad, and I think it’s right for him to move on.

“He’ll get a longer-term contract down in Turkey. That’s probably the right move. It opens up a space for Pep to bring in a fresher, younger keeper that I think he likes to work with.”

Man City to lose Silva for free

Meanwhile, Man City could be set to lose Bernardo Silva for free as his agent opens talks with other clubs, sources have told Football Insider.

Silva was one of several players tipped to leave Man City at the end of last season, and as a client of ‘super-agent’ Jorge Mendes, the 30-year-old would have no shortage of suitors were this to happen.

Football Insider revealed that reported interest from Real Madrid has been rebuffed by Man City, after Guardiola made Silva central to next season’s plans by appointing him captain.

However, sources have told Football Insider that as Silva is yet to be offered new terms by City with his current deal set to expire in June 2026, Mendes is exploring options for the Portuguese as a potential free agent.
