‘Pep Guardiola hit by career-defining blow – I’ve never seen this at Man City’
Man City boss Pep Guardiola has been hit with a career-defining blow due to his team’s recent poor run of form, providing him with his toughest test to date.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes he’s “never seen them look so creaky and susceptible” from a defensive perspective under Guardiola.
City are in the midst of a six-game run without a win in all competitions, which has seen the pressure rise on Guardiola and his star squad to turn things around before it’s too late.
The 53-year-old recently signed a two-year contract extension with City but currently faces a career-defining challenge in a bid to turn around their fortunes.
Man City are in unusual territory right now
“I’ve seen a frailty with them that I’ve never seen before,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“They looked like Manchester City of old on the back of Pep’s new contract.
“For the first time for me, I’ve seen a Manchester City side that looks susceptible.
“This is the first time he’s faced adversity, you look at his managerial career and you look at his record and you look at the clubs he’s been at.
“This is an unusual territory for him.
“His runs that he goes on are winning runs, not losing runs.
“The changes he made didn’t work, they looked devoid of confidence, and for him now to become maybe the best manager that we’ve seen, how does he deal with this situation?
“Defensively, I’ve never seen them look so creaky and susceptible as they have done in the last couple of weeks.”
