Danny Mills has waxed lyrical about Mateusz Klich after the Leeds United player started his 84th consecutive match in the Yorkshire derby.

The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed it was “an incredible achievement” by the 29-year-old likening the feat to that of Frank Lampard and John Terry.

Klich started the run at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, meaning he has started every Championship game of Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure.

John Terry completed every minute of every Premier League game under Jose Mourinho in 2014/15 as Chelsea won the title.

When asked how big an achievement such a feat was in modern-day football, Mills told Football Insider: “It is phenomenal.

“Frank Lampard did it for a set of games in the Premier League and John Terry played every single minute of every single game in a season.

“In this day and age, the number of games that are played, the physicality, the intensity, it is phenomenal. It is also so easy to get suspended in this day and age because you can pick up yellow cards for next to nothing.

“It is an incredible achievement. The level of consistency and fitness, he looks after himself on and off the pitch. Ultimately, anybody who stays in the team all that time is clearly playing well.”

United moved top of the table on Saturday beating their Yorkshire rivals 2-0 courtesy of goals from Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side need six more wins from their remaining 9 fixtures to secure a return to the top flight of English football for the first time since 2004.

In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has told Football Insider Marcelo Bielsa needs to pull the plug on ‘£40m’ deal.
