Paul Robinson has been left blown away by the “phenomenal” work rate of Aston Villa star Jack Grealish this season.
The former Tottenham and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 24-year-old’s willingness to do the dirty work sets him aside from other creative talents.
Grealish made his 27th appearance of the season against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, Mbwanna Samatta’s goal on his Premier League debut not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat for the Villans.
While acknowledging his impressive record in attack, with nine goals and seven assists, Robinson says it is the midfielder’s work ethic which makes him the excellent player he is.
Robinson told Football Insider: “He puts in a shift, he really gets about the pitch. His work rate is phenomenal, he’s got nearly as many goals as he’s got assists this year.
“He’s vital to Aston Villa, they can’t afford, there was talk of a transfer this window, there was no way they could afford to lose him. He is a lynchpin of all that they do and all that they do well.
“If Jack Grealish plays and plays well, Aston Villa play well. I think he’s getting better and better and it’s time for the England manager to have a look at him.”
Grealish had to wait eight games before getting his name on the scoresheet in the Premier League this season but has found the back of the net on a regular basis since.
He has also helped Dean Smith’s men reach the final of the League Cup, setting up Matt Targett to score in the 2-1 win over Leicester City.
In other Aston Villa news, Alan Hutton claims one man will not be at the club much longer after an official update.
